Mechanism

FDA approval exists for becaplermin (recombinant PDGF-BB, Regranex gel) in diabetic neuropathic ulcers. The major real-world exposure most people have to PDGF is via PRP injections — orthobiologic clinics inject autologous PDGF-rich plasma for tendinopathy, osteoarthritis, hair restoration. Synthetic injectable PDGF outside the PRP context is research-grey. Blueprint Serum includes PDGF as one of 8 biomimetic peptides.

Caveats

Regranex carries a black-box warning for potential malignancy risk (cancer-mortality signal in patients with prior cancer history). Autologous PRP is generally safer than synthetic recombinant — verify clinic preparation protocol + spin counts. Cosmetic claims for hair restoration via injectable PDGF exceed RCT evidence base.

DNA / pharmacogenomicsLow — PDGFRB polymorphisms theoretically modulate; PG not actionable.
